The Imagine Cup student competition offers an exciting opportunity to gain real-world experience and boost your resume to stand out from the crowd. Change your life and the lives of others by solving problems and working with a team to design software, games, and web sites that help make a difference on global issues. Stephen recently interviewed Genevieve and the co-producer of her portal, Elisabeth Vanderveldt, about her perception of the IT industry and how girls can be encouraged to embrace it and what changes need to be made to help young people get ready for the road and opportunities that lie ahead . These “girls” have 3 very unique stories about how they got into technology 3 very different technology careers and wouldn’t trade their excitement for anything in the world. From travelling globally to getting the opportunity to work on different projects in different cities for months at a time, meeting new people and enjoying new experiences, and then there was Microsoft Surface! Gen walked away from this interview having not only learned about the upcoming explosion of touch technology but also how much fun being the only girl on a floor full of guys (think “private” bathroom) can be. As Susan stated “Geek is Sheik!” ED09 http://www.exploredesign.ca/ Gen got time with Rodney Buike who showed her the touch screen that also uses a software application called Falcon Eye. Then it was over to Fanshawe College to get upstaged by Fanshawe College student Kyle (not Gens brother Kyle, as he quickly points out. We think Kyle has a career ahead in comedy) Gen would like to thank our host Christian Beauclair, Microsoft Canada, Rodney Buike of Microsoft Canada for his explanation of the touch screen technology and Gregg and Kyle from Fanshawe College for the hilarity in front of their green screen.
